I grew up in the small town of Valledupar in Northern Colombia. The youngest of five, the others being all boys, gave me a protective yet tortured childhood. My brothers are wonderful and I love them endlessly but they’re boys, you know how boys can be. Both of my parents worked in education so studying and receiving high marks was important. Three of my brothers became surgeons, one went into education, and I received my masters in tax law, so academic performance was highly valued.
Growing up in Northern Colombia means salsa, vallenato music, going to the river, big family gatherings and salsa. Did I mention salsa? When Colombians go out at night, dancing is more important that talking and I love to dance.
I moved to the USA in 2013 and I have to put this out there, I am a proud Colombian, I love my country, LOVE IT, but the USA is such a wonderful place filled with so much opportunity. In Colombia we work hard to become something that will pay us to live. It is hard and risky to try and do anything else. I would never try to be a fashion designer, blogger or model in Colombia. But here the encouragement and support is overwhelming. The opportunity to build something from scratch, to pursue a dream, is more accessible and realisitic. It has driven me to follow the path I love and create this blog.
And what is this blog about? Funny you should ask! Summer is my favorite time of year. To me it means relaxing, partying, observing the glory of being alive and spending time with others. Picnics, pool parties, water sports, regattas, trips to the beach, fresh fruit salads and going barefoot makes me happy. Also anything that gives me an excuse to wear a bikini. Which brings me to fashion.
What I like most about bikinis and swimwear in general is you have a garment that is making a statement by using a minimum of material. Because of this, the creative aspects are uniquely demanding. There are a plethora of body types that need to be catered to, unrealistic social demands on how we’re all supposed to look, trends, accessories, UGGGG!, picking out the right swimsuit can quickly become an exercise in self despondency. But it doesn’t have to be.
This is what my blog is about; finding and experiencing all those things, all those elements, that contributes to having a great summer. Be it a location, a swimsuit, a tasty cocktail or a discovery on how to relax, you can find it here. Or you will be. Remember I studied as a tax lawyer so please be patient cause this is a journey for me too.
I sincerely hope you take it with me.
